Marvel recently released the trailer for the new Spider-Man movie, “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Since it came out, fans have been filled with excitement and creating theories about this anticipated film, which is being released in theaters on December 17.
In order to understand the events of the new movie, it is essential to watch the previous Spider-Man film in MCU because the plot continues the timeline from where it left off. Mysterio has revealed Spider-Man’s identity, and the public is disappointed at Peter, since he is framed for Mysterio's crimes. Peter's urge for his everyday life led him to contact one of the other superheroes from the MCU universe, Doctor Strange. Peter wishes to reverse time to when people did not know him as Spider-Man. This resulted in the Time Spell, which Doctor Strange cast to make nobody aware of Peter’s identity. The plot unravels when unexpected visitors from other universes show up to the film's setting. The villains from other Spider-Man movies, Doc Ock, Electro and Green Goblin, are the antagonists of this movie. Throughout the film, Doctor Strange and Spider-Man's task is to return them to their original universe.
The movie has been receiving a great deal of attention. The film trailer received 355.5 million views in 24 hours, surpassing the amount for “Avengers: Endgame” (289 million views), making it one of the most viewed trailers globally.
"My reaction was pure excitement. I was looking for signs of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire throughout the trailer, and the three minutes given were amazing. It totally got me hyped up," said sophomore Guneet Hanjra.
Compared to the other MCU Spider-Man movies, this newest movie has many more expectations from some people.
"I am anticipating this movie to be the biggest and best Spider-Man to date, and I believe that was their intention in creating it. I have been a fan of all the Spider-Man movies released previously, but the MCU connection of this series adds another layer of excitement whenever one is released,” said math teacher Mr. Brusca.
In terms of casting, there will be the same protagonists: Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon). Doctor Strange will also be in this film, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. The villains are familiar faces for all the Marvel fans since they are from past Spider-Man movies. The villains are Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) and Electro (Jamie Foxx).
With the opening of the multiverse, fans have been speculating that all three of the Spider-Mans in Marvel (Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire) will be in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” There have been countless Easter eggs that fans are trying to solve, increasing their hopes of seeing all the Spider-Men in one movie.
“I think it would be unreasonable to assume Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are not in the movie, given how many leaks and pictures have been found. I think the reason why there is so much excitement towards this movie is because of the assumption that Tobey and Andrew’s Spider-Man will be in ‘No Way Home,’” said sophomore Linda Cheung.
