For many science fiction lovers, the fourth sequel in the Matrix series is a long-awaited movie. “The Matrix Resurrections,” also known as “Matrix 4,” is set to release right before the holidays on December 22.
For some background, the Matrix dystopian series started off with the 1999 movie, “The Matrix,” in which a stranger leads the main character, a computer hacker named Neo, into an underworld where he realizes that the human race is being used as a power supply. While human bodies are asleep, their minds are connected to the Matrix which is a virtual world that keeps them in a dreamlike reality. Despite this, some people are free from the Matrix, and the trilogy follows Neo and other characters in their attempts to free everyone’s mind from the enslavement of the Matrix.
While there is no official released plot synopsis for the new film, Keanu Reeves, a returning star actor of the franchise, has hinted that the love story between Trinity and Neo will continue to be the foundation of this science fiction tale. Since the tale of “The Matrix Revolutions” culminated in both Neo and Trinity’s perceived deaths, Reeves has thus revealed that the movie will describe the two main characters trying to find their way back together to combat a new evil threat in a seemingly different world.
With such a complex and scarily realistic plot, the eagerness to watch the fourth sequel has only increased. Also returning will be Jada Pinkett-Smith, Daniel Bernhardt, Lambert Wilson and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity. As for new characters, a new Morpheus will be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. However, Laurence Fishburne, the iconic actor who played Morpheus in the original trilogy, will not be in this upcoming film, since his character is actually dead. Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick and Priyanka Chopra are also set to play new characters in the movie; however their roles have not yet been revealed.
The trailer of “The Matrix Resurrections” was released by Warner Bros. Pictures on September 9, 2021. This short three minute video presents a vivid array of clips that hint at the danger of a new threat that makes the teamwork of Neo and Trinity a necessity.
“I loved watching the original movies when I was younger, and I am so excited to see what “The Matrix Resurrections” has in store! It’s just really cool to see Neo and Trinity fight together again in a new movie,” said junior Anagha Sunny.

This visual representation suggests the intensity the movie is creating for its viewers.
“I was stunned to see the trailer when it was released. The graphics of the scenes are so realistic and the cinematography is simply amazing. I can’t wait to see it in theaters,” said junior Julie Joseph.
Overall, the anticipation is increasing day-by-day until the release of this continuation of the classic Matrix storyline. Fans are ready to see their favorite actors and actresses reprise their roles as the classic characters in this science fiction saga. With stellar graphics and a dedicated cast, “The Matrix Resurrections” is foreseen to be a memorable movie.
