Aaron Rodgers Sidelined in New York Jets Debut

By Aditya Nair

The NFL season has just kicked off, and there are only two words to say: football and frenzies. The New York Jets, scheduled for five more prime-time games this year, have to eclipse their expectations without offseason acquisition Aaron Rodgers. Just over 3 minutes into the first game of the year, against division rivals, the Buffalo Bills, Aaron Rodgers was carted off the field, later confirmed with a torn Achilles tendon.

Aaron Rodgers is praised by New York Jets fans as they await his anticipated return.

The New York Jets hype was a result of an offseason full of additions and returning young phenoms. These include Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman and Dalvin Cook, as well as Quinnen Williams, Breece Hall and Aaron Rodgers. Super Bowl odds tanked after the devastating season-ending injury, starting at +1800 and falling to +150,000.

“It’s devastating for Jet fans,” eighth grader Brayden Bell said. “After years of waiting to get a quarterback to lead them back to the Promised Land, they finally get one, but he gets hurt on the fourth play of the season.”

Reasons for Rodgers' injury are unknown, though many fans speculate that the artificial turf at MetLife Stadium could have played a role. There has recently been a high percentage of football players who have been injured by the new type of turf and now the NFLPA (National Football League Players Association) has been fighting over the change from artificial turf to natural grass.

Over his 17-year career, Rodgers has faced many injuries. This is his third foot injury over the past 10 years, the first two were a pedal foot fracture and pedal toe fracture. The foot fracture took Rodgers out for the season and the toe fracture took him out for three weeks, but he was present for the remainder of the season.

“Rodgers has been out before and came back to finish the season,” junior Emerson Manuelas Molina said. “A torn Achilles tendon is serious, is likely season-ending, but it’s Rodgers. He wants a ring and so do us Jets fans.”

While Rodgers makes his way towards a road to recovery, NHP’s football fans await the unclear future for the Jets.
