Saturday Night Live returned on October 2 for its 47th season. The announcement for the first batch of episodes was made on September 22 with the first four hosts and four musical guests: Owen Wilson, Kacey Musgraves, Kim Kardashian, Halsey, Rami Malek, Young Thug, Jason Sudeikis and Brandi Carlile.
“It’s really good, I specifically loved when Phoebe Bridgers performed last season. I can’t wait to see what other musical guests they might have for the new one. Good show,” said junior Sara Gustafson.
The season premiere with host Owen Wilson aired to the lowest rated episode in the show’s history. However, the following week’s episode with host Kardashian resulted in a ratings boost. Whether it was due to Kardashian throwing shade at her own loved ones, Halsey as the musical guest or their overall status as celebrities, the episode was a big success.

An empty mic waits for SNL cast members to step up once again.
“So far the season has been hilarious. Even Kim Kardashian’s sketches had me hysterical, which I really wasn’t expecting,” said sophomore Nicole Donnelly.
This season’s cast is the largest in the show’s history, with 21 members in total. Cast members Beck Bennett and Lauren Holt left before the 47th season, and in turn, SNL has hired three new performers: Aristotle Athari, James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman. This season also marks the tenth season for Kate McKinnon, Andy Bryant and Cecily Strong, who are all tied for the sixth longest-running cast members in the show’s history. Speaking of longevity, this is Kenan Thompson’s 18th year on the show, making him the longest running cast member in the show’s history. However, their return for another season came as surprising news to many, since there has been a lot of speculation online that they would not be coming back because of the impression they gave during last year's season finale.
McKinnon, Bryant, Strong and Thompson were all nominated for Emmys for SNL, as well as Bowen Yang, who was the first featured player to be nominated and the first Chinese cast member on the show.
